Microporous polymers from sustainable monomers. 2015.

Porous polymers can display ultra-high surface areas and micropores (pores < 2 nm), due to cross-links or disordered interpenetrations among the polymer chains. Their covalent and often aromatic nature make them thermally and chemically stable. Hence, they are advocated as potential alternatives to zeolites and activated carbons in many applications. This project will focus on the design of microporous polymers as sorbents for cost-effective capture of gas and as substrate for catalysis.

Objectives:

  • Develop and functionalize microporous polymer from biomass derived monomers.
  • Test microporous polymers as catalyst substrates.
  • Test microporous polymers as gas sorbents.
