Optimization of RED data collection and data processing for beam-sensitive porous materials. 2015.

The Rotation Electron Diffraction (RED) method developed in EXSELENT has already shown to be powerful for structure solution of complex zeolites and metal-organic frameworks too small or too complex to be solved by X-ray diffraction.  For stable and perfect crystals, the collection of complete 3D electron diffraction data out to 1.0 Å or better now takes just an hour and data processing another hour. In almost all cases we have been able to solve the atomic structures from the data sets we have collected by RED. The RED method has been used to solve structures from simple metal salts to complex zeolites.

Objectives:

  • Optimize the RED data collection strategies and improve the data quality to reach more accurate structure solutions and refinement using the RED data, especially for beam-sensitive materials such as zeolites and MOFs.
  • To make RED a stand-alone method for a complete structure determination
